26 Beautiful Hearts- Tribute to those in Connecticut (original)

My heart goes out to those who have been effected by the tragedy Friday morning in Connecticut. There's not really anything that can truly help in a situation like this, but I decided I would write a song for those who are in need of comfort at this time. This is for you.

26 Beautiful Hearts
Just the day before
Not knowing what was in store
Families gathered with full hearts
Never wanting to be apart
They play and they sing
Letting Christmas carols ring
Cause just the next day
There’d be nothing to say

Her six year old daughter
And his six year old son
Were makin Christmas gifts
For them to love
When the chaos and the screamin
Became something they weren’t dreamin
Running down halls, tears were shed
Tryin to think Christmas carols in their head
Tryin to get to a place
Where’d they’d be safe

But now they sing with the angels up in heaven
Connected with those from 9/11
Safe and free from harm
There’s a chain of 26 beautiful hearts
Lined across the stars
They’ll never be far
Across the country Christmas carols slow
Cause they’ve gone home

Parents walk through where they hope to find
A little bit of evidence and piece of mind
That somewhere someplace their child’s safe
And they can come home to a warm embrace
The halls are dark where the children closed their eyes
And all they could hear was horrid cries
An unfinished Christmas gift is found
It’s all they have left, no word, no sound

But now they sing with the angels up in heaven
Connected with those from 9/11
Safe and free from harm
There’s a chain of 26 beautiful hearts
Lined across the stars
They’ll never be far
Across the country Christmas carols slow
Cause they’ve gone home

It was just the day before
They had no idea what was in store
Thinkin of things they could’ve said
Thinkin of things they could’ve done more

But now they sing with the angels up in heaven
Connected with those from 9/11
Safe and free from harm
There’s a chain of 26 beautiful hearts
Lined across the stars
They’ll never be far
Across the country Christmas carols slow
Cause they’ve gone home

Just the day before
Not knowing what was in store
Families gathered with full hearts
Never wanting to be apart
